Title: Keeping up with beauty (Street Photography - NYC People of NY series, April 2012)
Today's edit was inspired by a conversation I had today with a friend about women and their pressures to continue to keep up their appearances, and the perception of what true beauty is.
Love the at captured the word SAG and Moving in this one...
#TheYardPlayground comment: I like how that TwinForksMoving text refers to the old lady and Moving to the young lady. Great shot! At least in my opinion
Comment. Could be called the Tortoise and the Hare, as I expect the older lady to fight and win on the finish line. She had to be a winner when she was younger, this shows. Why the young one is probably listening to soft music. The black and white is good, with a good control of this busy background. The composition could maybe be improved a bit, leaving more room to the two characters, especially on the bottom. The right side - the truck - does not bring much to the image, but it is nevertheless neutral enough to not be disturbing. Overall a good image, well timed, interesting subject, and you did well in this context.
A nicely observed juxtaposition that doesnt go into the generic 'exploitative shot of old person' territory as she seems to be rather spritely! Perhaps the figures are a little bit indistinct against the backdrop but these things are not easy to account for in the spur of the moment.
This is a very good street photo. The writing MOVING and SAG with the old woman trudging work perfectly. I wish there was not the young girl, to have the cleanest and most direct impact in the image. But she was there, and you did a good job clicking at the right time, avoiding the overlap of figures and elements. Very well done, in my opinion
